WE ACT for Environmental Justice – Beauty Justice Presentation
April 14 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Recording of the WE ACT for Environmental Justice Beauty Justice Presentation. Presenters: Mae Kennedy and Danielle Mangabat. 04.14.2025
WE ACT for Environmental Justice is a leading voice in the environmental justice movement, working to end environmental racism and ensure a healthy, just, and equitable environment for all. Danielle Mangabat and Mae Kennedy presented on WE ACT’s work at large, their efforts in the toxics/beauty justice space, and how they’ve learned to engage meaningfully with Uptown NYC communities.
In 2019, WE ACT expanded their focus on beauty justice by exploring the impact of toxic chemicals in personal care products, particularly those marketed to women and femme-identifying individuals of color. Many of these products contain harmful substances like formaldehyde, PFAS, and mercury, posing serious health risks and reinforce Eurocentric beauty standards. Through community-based participatory research and advocacy at the state and international levels, WE ACT works to advance the beauty justice movement to protect public health and challenge systemic inequities in the beauty industry
