IC2 Work on Behalf of Low Income and Disadvantaged Communities (LIDAC)

LIDAC at the IC2

The IC2 defines LIDAC (Low-Income and Disadvantaged Community) as communities that are identified as having a disproportionate burden of environmental and social challenges, often due to factors such as:

  • Poverty
  • Lack of access to resources
  • Exposure to environmental pollution
  • High rates of asthma or other health issues

These communities are often left behind in environmental initiatives and require targeted support to address their unique needs and improve their quality of life. This includes communities that are marginalized or underserved and experience a disproportionate exposure to toxic chemicals where they live and work.

The IC2 LIDAC Workgroup serves as a resource to support IC2 workgroups, the Executive Committee, and member organizations in by identifying ways to more fully address communities that have a disproportionate burden of environmental challenges. The LIDAC Workgroup also aims to assist member organizations to integrate data, tools, and metrics to track progress. As well as, promote policies and regulations that will address the broad systems changes needed to reduce the disproportionate impact of exposure to toxic chemicals on different populations.
