IC2 Webinar: Automotive Chemical Management and the IMDS
September 19, 2016
James Lundström, Director of Regulatory Affairs for Volvo Car Corporation, described the evolution and use of the worldwide automobile industry’s shared material data system, the International Material Data System (IMDS).
The IMDS was originally a joint development of Audi, BMW, Daimler, HPE, Ford, Opel, Porsche, VW, and Volvo. Additional manufacturers have since joined the community, and IMDS has become a global standard used by almost all of the global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). In the IMDS, all materials used for automobile manufacturing are collected, maintained, analysed, and archived. Using the IMDS, it is possible to meet the obligations placed on automobile manufacturers, and thus on their suppliers, by national and international standards, laws, and regulations.
